With nearly 2.2 million Facebook page likers, Southern Boyz Outdoors has one of the outdoor industry’s largest and most active social media communities of people who love to hunt, fish and spend time outdoors.
Southern Boyz Outdoors shares outdoor-related content curated from the Internet as well as original videos and stories about Kinion and Tanya Bankston and friends as they hunt and fish in Louisiana and throughout the U.S. Lifelong outdoorsman Kinion is the guy behind the brand. Every day, he interacts with hunters via social media and in person at industry events.
“I’ve come to really understand how hunters think,” Kinion said. “They’re quick to share about their hunts, encourage each other and swap tips about what works for them and what doesn’t.”
Certainly, that’s the leading reason the Southern Boyz Outdoors brand is so strong: They know exactly the kind of videos and content outdoors men and women want to enjoy.
Kinion said he fields many questions from hunters about what kind of binoculars are best for hunting, especially whitetail deer hunting.
“Many hunters have a lot of outdated info about optics,” Kinion said. “Most hunters realize that binoculars are critical to whitetail hunting. But the misinformation comes into play about quality, price and features. Some people think you have to buy top-of-the-line glass and starve for three months to pay for it. Other hunters don’t realize that their old, super low-quality binoculars are completely insufficient. Today, you can get really amazing binoculars with outstanding glass that withstands rough treatment – at really affordable prices.”
Kinion’s tips for choosing the best binoculars for whitetail deer hunting:
1. Look for a lifetime warranty.
“A lifetime warranty will cover you, should something happen to your binoculars,” Kinion said. “But odds are, if a company is confident enough in their product, they’ll extend that kind of warranty knowing they’ve created an awesome product that won’t let you down.”
2. Make sure they’re designed for all conditions and all times of the day.
“How often are you hunting in the early morning hours or at dusk?” Kinion said. “Probably often. Some optics really disappoint in those low-light situations. You could miss seeing that whitetail completely if your binoculars don’t perform well at those times.”
“Considering that you’re going to be holding them for hours on end, you want your binoculars to be lightweight and comfortable to hold,” Kinion said. “There are so many bulky, heavy binoculars out there. It really makes a difference when your binoculars are lightweight so you won’t get tired of using them.”
“When you’re standing in a store, it’s impossible to really test binoculars’ clarity and sharpness,” he said. “That’s why I always recommend that you try your friends’ different binoculars brands and models out in the field. That’s when you’ll see such a difference in the image reproduction. You want binoculars that make you say ‘wow’ because the picture is so clear. Those are the optics that will help you spot a whitetail faster than the guy next to you.”
“After you’ve found a pair that covers the bases well, you can move onto the details that make the experience even sweeter,” Kinion said. “If you’re like me, you’ll drop your binoculars and let them bang around while you’re getting in and out of a tree stand. In that case, look for binoculars with features like solid eyecups that will stay in the right position, even if they get hit constantly.”
After being introduced to Vanguard optics several years ago, Kinion said Vanguard optics became his top recommendation to hunters.
“The quality is unbelievably great,” Kinion said. “I’m rough on my optics. I expect a lot from them. Vanguard binoculars consistently perform well.”
Kinion is among tens of thousands of hunters who’ve embraced Vanguard optics as their go-to gear for whitetail deer hunts and every hunt. Vanguard binoculars and spotting scopes have earned multiple awards from respected outdoor magazines and websites.
